Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect. Headache Impotence Confusion Fatigue Skin rashes Disturbances of the gut such as diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain Abnormal enlargement of breasts in men (gynaecomastia) Irregular menstrual cycle Disturbances in the levels of chemical components (electrolytes) in the blood The side effects listed above may not include all of the side effects reported by the drug's manufacturer so it's best you speak to the doctor who put you on this medication for more information, especially if your unsure of all the side effects.. hope i helped!"

brandlyn replied: "I am also taking the medication. I am currently on 50mg. I have not experienced the thinning of my hair, but I do know that could be a side effect. If you are concerned you need to talk to your doctor. Luckily I haven't had any of the side effects from this medication. I am hoping to start the metformin in the next couple of months once I am on the normal dose of 75mg of aldactone. Good luck to you!"

will aldactone clear my acne? i'm 16 and i have extremely oily skin and frequent breakouts on my face, back, and chest. my dermitologist perscribed aldactone and said it would clear my skin and get rid of the oils, because she thought i might have PCOS. will aldactone work on my body, and if so, will it cause weight gain?

i ♥ fuzzy wuzzzy replied: "i dont know what aldactone is but use proactive. i used it and it cleared my skin 10 of using and no break outs."

Has anyone else had a miscarriage and also have PCOS? I have PCOS but have regular periods. I was treated with glucophage and aldactone for a while, but got out of the habit of going to the doctor like i should. I recently had a miscarriage. I was wondering if it could have been prevented by treatment of my PCOS and insulin resistance prior to getting pregnant? I have an appointment with an obstetrician but wanted to know if anyone could help me on here.

gary-wa replied: "My wife has the same condition and she was advised that PCOS makes it harder to remain pregnant. However she has successful delivery of 2 children over time. Overall the healthier you are the better success and less complications you will have"

mandy0230 replied: "I have pcos. wow, That's crazy that you have regular periods considering exactly what pcos is....the inability to ovulate! Your doing better than me! lol! I have 3 daughters and I've had three miscarriages! It's hard to get pregnant and stay pregnant! My ob says its a miracle that I got pregnant without help! I went into pre-term labor, and was given meds for the rest of my pregnancy and all went well! However, my sister did need help. She also has pcos. She took meds to ovulate and then when she started to bleed early on, they gave her a hormone shot! She has a beautiful baby girl! This day in age, there are so many options medically to help you out!"

Has anyone ever taken Aldactone and Metformin? I was diagnosed with pcos/type 2 diabetes when I was 16. They tried to regulate with birth control, but it didn't work. They had me on a high dosage of glucophage for a few years, but it just killed my stomach. It worked great. Now i'm on a combo of fortamet ER and Aldactone. I gained a lot of weight off the meds. Does anyone know how the combo will effect me? I've heard everything from my acne and hirituism clearing up, to swollen breasts and frequent urination. Any help?

sokokl replied: "I can't answer on the Glucophage and its generic equivalent metformin but I can on the Aldactone. I have taken it off and on for about 10 years to help with the water retention caused by the PCOS. I have not been able to take it again due to situations beyond my control and am going to talk to my dr about possibly trying something else for a while because of those situations beyond my control. Something that I learned about the Glucophage from my mom (she took it to try and control the Diabetes she has) was that you have to have huge meals to make sure it doesn't upset the stomach. She wasn't able to do that and it upset her stomach a lot also caused a tingling sensation in her thighs every time she took it. I also wanted to mention that women with PCOS are prone to having problems with their thyroid as well as being at risk for osteoporosis because of the lack of menstrual periods that we often run in to. The Aldactone will help on some level with the excess hair growth. As for the acne, I found that taking prenatal vitamins did a better job for me. I have never been pregnant but I did check with my dr to make sure it was safe for me and she said it was. I've been doing this for 7 years now. As for the frequent urination ask them to check to see if you have a urinary tract infection that could be causing this. If it's not another possibility that could be playing in to this for you is a condition called Interstitial Cystitis or even a kidney issue. Unfortunately because Aldactone is a water pill it will be making you go to the bathroom even more to get rid of the excess water your body is holding on to. I would recommend getting an opinion from an endocrinologist on this issue if you haven't already."

At 26 I I've been diagnosed with PCOS and I am very depressed about it. M not sure what medicine to take.? Coz of my history with severe migrane attacks my doctor has advised me not use Metamorphin. I have been put on Aldactone. My biggest issue is increasing hair growth on my face, chest and stomach. I feel so ugly and low. I have started off with an exercise program and am careful about what I eat but I feel a lot LOST. A couple of days ago while browing the internet I came across this website. I was wondering if anyone has used this product.

elfhild replied: "I was recently diagnosed as well. I would only take medication that my doctor gave me. Please be careful about what you take. If you are trying to concieve, taking something dangerous will increase your risks of pregnancy loss, birth defects, etc. Talk to your doctor about any questions you might have. It is very important that you stay in close contact with him/her. The lost feeling does get better. There will be times when it hurts so bad you can't stand it, and then there will be times that you're okay. Eventually, you have more good days than bad. Good luck."

I have PCOS and have been prescribed medication? My doc has given me a script for a medicine called Aldactone. (I think thats what is says.) Its hard to read but i am wondering what it is for?? Please help. My husband and I have been trying to concieve for 2 years now and I am desperate for a baby. Breaks my heart when friends tell me they are pregnant

bluexland replied: "If your doctor gives you medicine don't you think you should ask what it is for? you can type it in google and many websites will let you know what it is."

Nicole K replied: "Hi! Sorry to hear you going through this. I remember this part and feeling that way about other people. Just know that feeling what your feeling is okay, and understandable. First I would say is talk your dr. about why alcatone, just for your info. Are you seeing a GYN or a reproductive endocrinologist? If your still seeing you GYN, I highly recommend seeing a specialist. I knew something was wrong before even trying to conceive and got the pcos diagnosis from GYN who gave me clomid for 6 mos. before sending me on. My endocrinologist was confident about my becoming pregnant. I now have 3 under 2 years (second pregnancy twins). So it's not always impossible, believe the stories you hear and Goodluck!!!"

4girls&done replied: "I am sorry that you are having difficulty, but I wanted to pass along this info. Get the South Beach Diet Book and read the section regarding PCOS. It says that PCOS is related to insulin resistence and prediabetes. The book says that the South Beach Diet can help women with PCOS to conceive because the diet is addressing the insulin resistence and the prediabetes. They interviewed a woman who had this, went on the diet, lost weight, got her body chemistry under control and then conceived on her own. It is worth a shot. Good Luck."

beckon82uk replied: "I can understand what you are going through I also have pcos and have been trying for 4 years, Im not sure what aldactone is but try putting it in a search engine, and if no luck then contact your doctor and ask them to explain it to you as it is your right to know what is going into your body, there are many things they can try, but don't give up, if this does not work then there is always surgary, it is done in an outpatient dep so you don't have to stay over night, it may be worth asking your gp about this, as I belive it has a high sucess rate, i am hoping to have this soon i wish you all the luck for the future and hope you hear tiny feet soon."

Birth Control and PCOS? I'm 20 years old and have PCOS. I've just started birth control after about a year of just metformin and aldactone. I couldn't get my period from just those two medicines alone, so my doctor put me on Yaz in addition. Now that I'm done with the first pack, I still haven't gotten my period yet. I know that I'm not pregnant, but is there any other reason for this?

Stephanie H replied: "I have PCOS as well, and didn't do well on Yaz. I was tired of bleeding constantly & irregulary so I went on the shot & off of everything else. It has been more than a year now, and I have since stopped the shot as well - since doing that I have had a "normal" period 3-5 days long every month. I will admit that I have no idea how or why it worked out this way...But it did. I NEVER had a normal period before starting & stopping the shot."

Anyone with slight PCOS? Hi, Anyone out there with slight pcos? I was on BC pills for 3 yrs and then when i went off, didnt get periods for 4 mths. periods were induced with provera and then got 2 more periods each after 18 days. may be an effect of aldactone. i dont have any cysts. we will be TTC now and i have been taking glucophage for 2 weeks. just wanted to hear abt same experiences and anything on weight loss. I am 5'5'' and 170 lbs. and i didnt see any weight loss as such. I have all other symptoms of pcos except cysts. please help

~Cilla~ replied: "Hey,....you are the EXACT same height and weight as me.....weird! I too have PCOS....I wouldnt say slight but....I have cycts and irregular periods....thats ALL the symptoms I have. Like you,.....I took birth control and when i got off it my periods were outta control then I had to take provera to induce my periods...for a long time I blamed it on birth control. I am also TTC and have been for the past 6 months. It has been a rough rode for us....I have had a sonogram done, blood has been taken, i have also taken a glucose test as well as having an HSG done...to test my tubes - which came back perfect!!! All this just to get on Clomid which will help with ovulation so that we can get pregg......I am 27 so there is still time I guess....its just REALLY hard and depressing at times....makes u feel all alone but then u read similar stories and it eases the pain sometimes....keep your head up.....lots of baby dust to us!!! PCOS wont bring us down!!! :) If you start to notice changes in your body....it might be becuase of the PCOS....just ask your doctor to put you on Metformin....and then ask about Clomid if by then you have not conceived yet. I hope I have helped in some way....I wish you all the luck!!!!"

Advice and understanding, PCOS and Clomid.? Hello Community, I was diagnosed with PCOS 6 yrs ago and recently had my second miscarriage. I have been reading up on the drug Clomid which is used to aid in ovulation for women with PCOS. I know there is no guarantee that if I start on this drug I will be able to conceive. But I was wondering if anyone has had immediate success with this drug. I don't think I can deal with another miscarriage. I guess my question is have you used this drug and how soon after were you able to conceive. Any advice you would give before taking this medication? Any questions that I should definitely ask the fertility DR.? A little background: (I started getting my menstral regularly since age 8 and it stopped when I was 16 y/o, since I have been on Metformin, Aldactone and Alesse) Thank You everyone for your feedback..... (¯`v´¯) `•.¸.•´ ¸.•´¸.•´¨) ¸.•*¨) (¸.•´ (¸.•´ .•´¸.•¨¯`•·. Thank You all for the feedback I have received so far. My weight since I was diagnosed has been up and down constantly. I lost 30 pounds last year and it stayed off for about 6-7 months and then it started to come right back. I have stayed on the diet and exercise routine my nutritionists has placed me on but the results are never long term.

mominohio replied: "I was diagnosed with PCO when i was 19. I tried clomid and it didn't work. If you have had miscarriages then ovulation isn't your problem, you may need hormone therapy to stay pregnant. It is not advise to take Clomid if you are capable of ovulating on your own. Ask what your options are? Are you overweight, if so you will need to start eating low carb now and lose weight. Cut back on breads, cereals, sweets and pastas. Carbs can cause a lot of problems for woman with PCO as PCO is linked to insulin resistance (thus the use of Metformin). You need to first regain control of your cycles and your body then your body will have a better chance of carrying a baby. I lost 40 lbs (after giving up on fertility meds) and ended up with 2 beautiful boys. I noticed that everytime I eat carbs I get sick, my periods get late and I start having problems again but as soon as I back off the carbs my periods do better and I feel better."

MandyN replied: "I was also diagnosed with PCOS, and at the beginning of this year I started infertility treatments. The first drug I tried was Clomid, and it worked the first time I used it. I am now 29 weeks pregnant. I started periods at the age of 13, then they stopped completely and I had to use the pill to get any periods at all. So my PCOS is also pretty bad. I hope this helps. Good luck."

betty replied: "Hiya I fell pregnant the second month i was on clomid but unfortunately miscarried but that doesnt mean you are. Im waiting for my period so i can take clomid again. I hope it happens for you soon xxx"

acj3576 replied: "I also have PCOS, and I conceived on my 4th cycle of clomid (150 mg) and metformin. My advice as far as clomid is concerned is to make sure you are being monitored by your doctor, not just sent home with a prescription and told to come back in 3 months if you haven't conceived. Multiple births are possible with clomid (I'm having twins, but actually started with quadruplets). When I started taking clomid, I was only told that it increased the possibility of twins. Clomid has a lot of side effects, which you might want to talk over with your doctor. It affects everyone differently, but I was absolutely crazy on clomid. My mood swings and hot flashes were horrible. Of course, now that I'm pregnant, I think the side effects were worth it! The risk of miscarriage is higher in women with PCOS (I had 2 miscarriages before this pregnancy), but metformin is supposed to help with that. If you aren't taking metformin now, you might want to discuss that with the doctor also."
